I just finished The Bear and completely agree! I also think part of the reason it doesn’t have quite as much grit and bite (pun intended) as the first 2 seasons is because the characters are finally starting to heal and not self sabotage. They’re making better decisions for themselves and figuring things out. So it’s a bit less angsty but I think that’s intentional. That scene Ayo did in the hospital made me cry, she really got a chance to show off. I remember thinking in season 2 this show was setting Sydney up to take the lead. Initially I was pissed off at Carmy’s decision in the s4 finale but looking back, it makes perfect sense. I hope Sydney is leading the restaurant by the end of s5 and I’d consider that a great series ending.
Love the pun 🤭 That's such a good take. I definitely think people will enjoy it more if they view it that way. We aren't getting a "Fishes" type episode because so many of them have healed or realized how toxic their dynamics were. OMG, I wanted to mention the hospital scene, but I didn't want to give too much away. That is what made me post the note lol. I was like, there's no denying she can do a scene without comedy and crush it (not that I was doubtful, but if anyone was). That's how I felt after S2 too, and then idk what S3 was meant to do, but I am glad we got through it 😭 I think it makes sense too. I don't feel like Carmy will totally be gone but idk.... I am excited to see where it goes, and I hope they know when to stop. I think S5 would be a good ending, too, especially with how booked the cast is.
next gen NYC is such a fun little treat to me, i find ariana and riley becoming friends again so sweet!! charlie is a potentially jax level demon in the making and unfortunately rn i can't look away. fascinating how he seems to have a huge grudge against the housewives kids yet he's a jobless trust fund baby.......
i need julia off my screen and guerdy to get behind me immediately! i hate that truly no one is standing up for her. but the lisa / larsa fighting does make me lol, production really killed it with forcing them to ride in a car together in milan.
i was loving the all stars bracket format so much but now i'm just pissed for denali. i'm enjoying ginger more than i thought, but i'm quite over queens coming back more than once when there's so many to pick from (or, get this, don't do an all stars every single year).
I really did not expect to care about it at all, but I am glad I was wrong! it's not perfect by any means, but it has the potential to get even better with time and some finessing. love ariana and riley and their friendship! charlie is scott disick + jax mixed together 🤮 like what do you do successfully??? you could have a fake business or be investing in your friends but instead you are out partying with 20 year olds every night.
they are icing guerdy out so bad and not inviting her to events. it's pissing me off. who even liked julia to begin with??? lisa and larsa are so aisdufhasidugis the back and forth is so out of pocket lol. the car ride was diabolical!!!
all stars but they have cycled through 3/4 of the franchise already 😭 it should feel like an EVENT but it doesn't with it being every year and people returning 17 times or from THE LAST SEASON which is just.....end it.
I love hating on AJLT. It's my version of punching something to release stress. Between the ugliest table I've ever seen and Carrie just getting offended her neighbor asked her to stop walking in heels in her apartment there is a lot to hate. It's perfect.
The new NYC real housewives kids show is my second outlet for stress. I just love yelling at the TV "you are thirty!!!" every time Charlie complains about stuff.
punching someone to release stress 😭 real lol. I know I complain about it a lot, and yet, I keep watching, but I think I enjoy the discourse more than I enjoy the show. therefore, I will tune in against my will hahahaha.
CHARLIE IS THE WORSTTTTTTTTT. What a big baby. I was losing it at Dylan being like "we are the adults"
I feel you on AJLT. I really must not have free will and am living in a simulation because I cannot explain why I show up, week over week, to watch that!
I haven’t started the bear, only because I need to be SAT for it and I’ve not been in the mood to be sat recently 😂. But I’ll get to it soon. I’m also looking forward to the Dallas cowboys cheerleader doc and next gen nyc (though I was a bit disappointed when I found out they weren’t reviving the 2008 classic NYC Prep).
For me in June: I’ve been watching ER, because I can’t help myself with an old procedural. I am pleased with the direction of Poker Face, I was iffy for a few weeks but they got it back on track!
I also started and finished Adults, Sirens, and Found as per your recs in the last newsletter. I have a bone to pick about Found…but you warned me 🤣🤣🤣
Also, I’d LOVE to collab on a top 10 shows post - I’ll DM you soon!
AJLT is a train wreck that I can't look away from, but it's fun to talk about it. I think that's why I keep coming back. I enjoy the discourse over how silly each episode is.
I completely understand about The Bear. I took it in smaller doses this season, and I think that's part of why I enjoyed it more, too. YES, report back once you have watched them. Next Gen: NYC is still airing weekly, so not as overwhelming to catch up on. Omg, I have never watched NYC Prep but have heard a lot about it lol
Do you think ER is worth watching? I do like having an old show to fill my time with when things are slow. Plus, I loved The Pitt, so I feel like it makes sense to try it out. Same with Poker Face. I need to watch today's episode and see how the season is winding down.
SO GLAD to hear that you watched those! LISTEN, I never said found was good 🤭 what did you think of Adults?
I LOVED adults. It made me feel a liiiitle old (at 34) but also made me nostalgic for those early adult days.
And you did give me fair warning about found. I take full responsibility. It was truly a perfect guilty pleasure show — my husband would walk in and ask “are you watching that show with the terrible acting again” 😂
I don’t know if NYC Prep will hold up. Part of it is I watched it in high school, in nyc, and the show was about kids in hs in nyc. But maybe finding clips on YouTube.
ER has won me over. It felt really dated at first but everyone has grown on me. It’s made me realize how much every hospital show is so based on this one so felt like it was about time.
I really did end up liking Adults the end too. I want a second season to see it iron out the kinks.
Your husband was correct 😭 But like you said, a guilty pleasure watch. Maybe we just need to view AJLT in the same way lol
I was wondering about it feeling dated too but good storytelling is good storytelling. Yeah, everyone really says it’s the blueprint. I might press play this month.
As someone who has a wip of my top 25 shows of the last 25 years you're speaking my language!
I have been waiting to hear your thoughts on the bear. Last season threw me so off I have been afraid to hit play but now that I'm done America's sweethearts (congrats to those women!) and taskmaster is wrapping up, maybe I'll elevate that one a bit. I am woefully behind on my tv watching this month.
OMG, I love that! Any hints as to some that are on it? I wrote about my four favorites, but I like the idea of expanding it and focusing on the 21st century.
Glad to report that I enjoyed it! Certainly not without flaws, and it gets into a habit of repeating familiar beats, but I am just happy it was nothing like last season. What did you think about this season of America's Sweethearts? Def report back after you watch The Bear!!! The good thing is there's not much this month, so more time to catch up!
HAHAHAHHAHAHHAH I wish I could quit it 😭 but I guess I enjoy talking and writing about the mess of it all
Part of why it's a WIP is because it got loooooong. I have to figure out how to approach it because when I wrote about Battlestar Galactica it may as well have been an entire PhD about war criticism. But others on my Iong list were futureman, severance, corner gas, and please like me.
I really enjoyed Americas sweethearts but differently than first season. I think at one point I said to my partner that it felt like they had a season and then needed to pivot to PR to not look worse than they already did rather than it be about the women. I felt like we didn't get to know any of them really. I also shamefully have no memory of why Victoria is so salty haha.
Then I tried to watch Making the Team and bounced ep 1 😂
The BG war criticism essay sounds really interesting though! Loveeee! it sounds super varied already.
Definitely agree about season two of AS!!! The throughline wasn’t as strong and I’ve seen other criticisms that we didn’t get to connect with the rookies as much. It seems like they focused on team leaders more this season which was maybe part of the pivot. I loved getting to know Jada and Armani more though. But definitely can see how they kind of used it as damage control. PLEASE I’m sorry but (I’m over the Victoria stuff and her mom annoys me).

CHARLIE IS THE WORSTTTTTTTTT. What a big baby. I was losing it at Dylan being like "we are the adults"
Hahaha yes when Dylan said that Charlie talked about a party with no adults I was dying. He's sooooo immature.
watching Georgia call him out was so satisfying!!!!
And yet somehow The Morning Show is better than AJLT. God help us.
😭😭😭😭 it makes TMS look like the best show of the 21st century
Truly. Did you watch last night’s episode?
YES 😭😭😭 the show is at its best when it’s focusing on the friendships tbh… the Aidan stuff pissed me off
I feel you on AJLT. I really must not have free will and am living in a simulation because I cannot explain why I show up, week over week, to watch that!

OMG, yes!!!! Please do whenever! No rush!
I LOVED adults. It made me feel a liiiitle old (at 34) but also made me nostalgic for those early adult days.

NOOOOOOO omg that show was so toxic…
